Ok.

So I know that I´m more than half a year late with this but fuck it. Things have been hectic for the first 6 months and first now I see a ray of light out of this work-madness that is darkness (/wrists)

Without further ado I give you (whoever is reading) the uncomplete list of New years resolutions 2010:

  1. Finish Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time with Sóley
  2. Complete all the Fallout 3 achievements
  3. Play chess 25 times with my grandmother
  4. Take up previous lifestyle with alot less candy & junkfood
  5. Complete the CCENT exam.

Now you guys can comment on this bad boy here and please give me advice of what to put in the other five.

RIP: Larry Jr.

06-28-10

And so he””””s gone.

After keeping him alive for almost a year we decided to get a kitten. This kitten(Named Júlíus Whitebeard/Hvítskeggur) has been quite the light/bane of our lives ever since. Being the energetic creature that a kitten can be! Bumping into things, running things down e.t.c.

However this kitten took quite the liking to our tiny tree, thus we had to place the tree out of the kittens reach. This became a problem for the tree for it didn””””t receive enough sunlight to nourish. Slowly but surely it withered away until it died last February.

This saddened me because I always concidered myself to have a bit of horticulture in me but alas, a bonsai requires almost constant attention.

I walked with his remains to the top of Esja where he was buried next to a rock.

RIP Larry JR. You were the best of all the tree””s

I´ve heard alot of fancy words over my time.

Here´s a short list of a few of those words.

  • Interest rates.
  • Inflation
  • Positive re-inforcement
  • Good Quality
  • Equal rights

Lets start with the literal senses of those words.

Interest rate. The only word I can link this to is interesting. And Rating (or giving it a rate of which it might be going) interest of people.

Here´s what Wikipedia has to say about it.

Interest is a fee paid on borrowed assets. It is the price paid for the use of borrowed money [1], or, money earned by deposited funds [2]Assets that are sometimes lent with interest include moneysharesconsumer goods through hire purchase, major assets such as aircraft, and even entire factories in finance lease arrangements. The interest is calculated upon the value of the assets in the same manner as upon money. Interest can be thought of as “rent of money”. For example, if you want to borrow money from the bank, there is a certain rate you have to pay according to how much you want loaned to you.

Wow! To me it sounded like somone had something interesting and he(or she) had been rating said interest. Thus giving the name, interest rates.

Inflation.

Here´s what wikipedia says

In economics, inflation is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time.[1] The term “inflation” once referred to increases in the money supply (monetary inflation); however, economic debates about the relationship between money supply and price levels have led to its primary use today in describing price inflation.

To me… it more sounds like inflating something. Like a balloon!

Positive re-inforcement.

Now here´s one that I REALLY like! Because I can´t stand those guys giving me NEGATIVE re-inforcement. How does one do that by the way? Does one send in BAD troopers to aid good troopers? How can that aid anyone? Is that not like saying “good quality” which brings me to my next rant!

GOOD QUALITY! this gets tossed about around 5-10 times a day near me and it annoys the (pardon my french) fuck out of me! Quality means good, right?
That must mean that Good Quality means good good, right? Now where´s the sense in saying something is good good? Does that make it EXTRA good? Or does that mean saying things are bad bad, are really good?(Double negative anyone?)

Equal rights is something that gets my attention. Most the time I hear about equal rights is when people are saying we need more of it. I couldn´t aggree more! People, regardless of skin color or gender should be paid the same for the same work. That is to say, the starter pay at McDonalds should be the same for all. AND IT IS!
However there are some people who … don´t quite get the term EQUAL rights!  Lets Wikipedia the CRAP out of this!

But wait! There is nothing about equal rights, only about women rights. Now, there is some clause that I like. It says:

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

Other than that it says nothing about who should rather get the job. A man or a woman.
Now people who know me, know that I bear the utmost respect for certain people. Regardless of gender, race or age. What some people don”t realize is that this respect must be earned through feats of ethics, work, strength and intellect. Being a <insert gender/race/religios belief here> doesn´t automatically make you my best friend.
The reason for this rant is that I”ve witnessed gender discrimination at first hand.  Here”s the Hypothetical situation:

A workplace has a certain job. To this day this certain job is held by a group of guys, males if you will. For the longest of time the supervisor of this group (a female) has wanted to “break up the guys club” that this job has become. Well having too many males in one job for a long period of time makes this job a “mans club” and this cannot be denied. However if two people were to apply for said job, one being male and the other being female. They would be tested. Now lets say, for the sake of this story, that the male showed better test results than the female. Should she still get the job?

I didn´t mean to make this post a gender-thing but I accidentally the whole post!

Sorry about the lack of links in the latter part of this. But I just can”t be arsed anymore :)

Now I understand the majority of people go “durrrh lol u r nerd. hahahah” and try and perform a wedgie on the person they were mocking.

But little do they know that being a nerd is quite a lot of fun! I know this is sort late but alas, time has consumed me once more.

Now I´d like to say a few things that make nerds happy. Things that make ´em giggle and laugh about. Things that make ””em go “huh, that´s pretty neat”

For one: Mythbusters!

You have seen the show, you””ve laughed, you””ve giggled. You damn sure have been entertained. That show is hosted by a bunch of very clever people who have literally decades of years experiences on their backs doing all sorts of crazy experiments. Jamie Hyneman also does lectures all over America in colleagues and various other places. He””s a prime example of a nerd.

Another very common nerd name is: Google!

Google was founded by two guys, Larry Page and Sergei Brin. Their success has been otherworldly! Having taken the company public and made billions of it they still command the company instead of letting it blow out of hand. Being successful really doesn´t go to everyones head.

Vin Diesel has and does the following:

  • Plays video games
  • Has his own video game company
  • Plays role playing games (D&D)
  • Kicks ass

There is no way of not knowing of Vin””s success. He””s a movie superstar. But, despite his rippling biceps and hulking frame, this guy still is a nerd. (Although I wouldn””t reccomend saying it to his face)

Another Hollywood(land) creature who people know very well is a bit of a nerd. Mila Kuniz (The voice of Family Guy””s ””Meg”” and various other voices) she´s known to play World of Warcraft.

Looking back on why I started playing video games… well it was fun! I did it for the entertainment. Some games (Monkey Island, Police/Kings/Space Quest and Leisure suit Larry) aided me in learning english.  All these games have had an effect on and subsequently made me the person I am today.

This is not to say that the programmers life hasn´t been lucrative. The video game industry earns billions of dollars a year for various products! Franchises are built and make subsequently more money.

What I´m trying to say (albeit poorly) is that being a nerd gives you a diffrent perspective on life. We cannot be catagorized and sorted into a bin.

We are all diffrent from each other. Wether you like Star Trek fan fiction or Twilight fan fiction.

Being a friend

08-04-09

I have a friend.

She is of the female variety. She´s not my “girlfriend” but I concider her to be a fair friend. I´ve known this lady for almost a decade. I knew her when she first had boy problems. I knew her when she started dating a good friend of mine. I knew her when she started dating her fiancée. And I know her still.

I always did think her boyfriend was an okay guy for her. Even though he didn´t particularly like me that much (I was informed later on) but I didn´t care. He was a good guy for her and that shouldn´t have bothered me.

When she told me they were getting married I was thrilled for their sake. She was with her sweetheart and they were going to have a child together. Okay he didn´t like me but she was happy and that´s all that was important. A year passed without me hearing from her. But then I got word that she was pregnant! Imagine that, this very friend of mine was pregnant! I was so thrilled for her sake. Then as months progressed I watched her facebook site to be informed of how it was going, one could even say I was stalking her for the information.

Then it happened. One month before the wee one was going to be released to this blue ball of ours, complications arose. There isn´t much I can say because I don´t know any of the facts. But I know their child did not make it. I was devestated! Knowing that her soon-to-be husband wouldn´t approve of me contacting her about how I felt I didn´t know what to do.

So eventually, I decided to do this. Seeing how I doubt he minds her reading little blogs like these. Especially ones regarding lots of rants e.t.c

To her I say: I wish I did this sooner but I had a hard time figuring out how to do this in a sneaky enough way.  I feel horrible about what happened but I know that there is nothing I can do except say that my condolences are with you guys and I wish you all the best!

Comments are disabled for a reason on this one.

I like Hreyfing!

07-02-09

Great gym.
Great machines.
Great times.

This appears to be the _only_ gym that opens up before 6am and is functioning into the wee hours. Well I went there at 6am this morning and worked out for a full hour!

This has been my issue with excercising early:

I always have to get up early, I´m fine with that. However Gyms tend to open up at 6:30. Now lets go through with whats wrong with that:
6:30 – Getting there and getting in
6:35 – 6:50 – getting dressed and moving to the equipment
7:00 – Start working out(varies on what equipment is free)
7:30 – Stop working out and stretching a bit
7:35 – 7:45 – Shower and getting dressed
7:50 – 8:00 – Commute and go to work.

And my problem is that I want to work out for more than just 25-30 minutes.

But @ hreyfing it´s more like:
5:50 – Getting there and getting in
5:55 – 6:00 Getting dressed and moving to the equipment (very fast because of handy locations)
6:05 – Start working out
7:10 – Stop working out
7:25 – Finish my stretching and head to the shower / sauna
7:40 – Finish my sauna & shower routine
7:50 – Get dressed and walk across the street to get to work.

Conclusion: I love that place!

Konráð Þór

04-21-09

Losing another friend in such a short time is hard. Immensly hard.

The funeral was beutiful.

Rest well Konni, you deserve it.

There are many challanges that lie ahead in life.

Losing weight, finding a mate, getting a promotion and aqquireing stuff.

I´ve lost alot of weight.

I´ve found a mate.

I´ve been promoted and even aqquired myself a healthy amount of scavanged stuff.

But none are as hard as losing a friend.

Saturday the 28´th of february my mate for 9 years and co-worker for the last three years passed away. Last wednesday was the funeral.

Being in the church felt surreal to all of us as this man who had passed away was a great comedian to us all. Being such a vibrant personality we sort of asked ourselves as we exited the church. Where is he? Isn´t he supposed to jump from the corner and say “GOTCHA you fuckers!”

Then we´d all share a laugh and go happily back to work.

He however didn´t. And we went back, without him.

Rest in peace Árni Jakob Hjörleifsson.  You will surely be missed.
